Chesterfield manager John Sheridan has raided former club Oldham to sign Kelvin Lomax and Deane Smalley on three-month loan deals.

Full-back Lomax, 23, and striker Smalley, 22, have found first-team opportunities limited at the League One club this season, with Smalley having recently completed a loan spell at Rochdale.

Sheridan said: "They were both in my side at Oldham when we were top of League One and they are not playing there, so I have brought them in. I want us to have strength in depth. We can't always play well and sometimes you have to step out of the game to get yourself back together, so when that does happen you need people to come in."
