New Notts County owner Ray Trew wants police to launch an investigation into Swiss-based Middle Eastern consortium Munto Finance.

The group were in control at the League Two club between July and December last year but Trew claims they never put any money in and only took it out. After having a team of accountants go through the Magpies' books following his own takeover this month, Trew said he hoped police will launch an investigation next week.

Trew - who announced on Tuesday that the Magpies would not have to go into administration, despite debts of £6.7million - told the Nottingham Evening Post: "One day next week we will be calling them in."

He added: "I have to be careful because I don't want to prejudice the police investigation, but we believe there are certainly activities which have gone on here that warrant the police being called in."

The Magpies are due in the High Court on Wednesday over a winding-up petition, but say they have struck a deal to pay off their creditors.
