Crewe boss Gudjon Thordarson says Tom Pope won’t be replaced after his £150,000 transfer to Rotherham United.

Pope was Crewe’s leading scorer last seaosn, but Thordarson insists he has other priorites after the Railwaymen’s relegation.

“I wish Tom all the best, but that money gives me the chance to restructure my squad," he told The Sentinel.

"I have more strikers than I have players in any other position – Anthony Elding, Calvin Zola, Clayton Donaldson, Shaun Miller, Byron Moore and Joel Grant.

"Football never sleeps but it is very quiet at the moment, as a lot of people are on holiday. I've spoken to a few players, but I'm also keeping my options open, so I get the best possible deals.

"Some players have been ready to sign, but at times I've been unable to make my mind up about them and I've not been ready to commit."
