Darlington manager Steve Staunton is aiming to base the Quakers’ survival plan around homegrown talent.

The former Republic of Ireland manager has guided Darlington to two home victories since taking charge as he tries to elevate them out of the drop zone.

Curtis Main and Corey Barnes – two 17-year-olds – started in their weekend win over Burton whilst youngsters, Josh Gray and Dan Groves, were sent on in the second half and teenager, Dan Burn, was on the bench.

Staunton told the Middlesbrough Gazette: "Lidds (Craig Liddle) and Maddo (Neil Maddison) are doing a fantastic job in producing our own players.

"I want to see homegrown lads playing for Darlington and I know that the fans want to see that as well.

"I think that could be the future of the club. They have had a good grounding and have a chance. But the hard work is only just beginning."
