Very much a modern-day manager with a studious approach, former Bury boss and Bradford coach Chris Casper is eager to hit the ground running when the new campaign kicks off.

He told Givemefootball’s Ian Clarkson in an exclusive interview that he believes he still has a lot to offer....

Q: What are you up to currently?

A: I am not currently in a job as I was released from Bradford at the end of last season due to cutbacks that were made at the club. I’m like a bear with a sore head whilst I am out of work!

Q: Are you looking to get back into management?

A: I am not really looking for a specific job – just a good job back in football. I really enjoy coaching and dealing with footballers. Being involved in coaching and management is a bit like a drug and it is what I am trained to do. I have all the necessary coaching qualifications and that is what I enjoy doing.”

Q: You also have a good academic background - is that important in a managerial role?

A: You need to have a certain amount of common sense to be a manager and I feel as though I communicate well with people be it fellow managers, players, chairmen or agents. I would like to think my CV is impressive and I have had a lot of good experiences.

Q: Is it hard to get back on the managerial ladder in the Football League?

A: There are only so many jobs in football and only 92 managerial posts in the Football League. It is a very highly pressurised industry and a high turnover of jobs with managers and coaches, particularly outside of the bigger clubs.

If you look at the bigger picture it seems as though the bigger clubs are expanding and the smaller clubs are finding it ever more difficult. Even a club like Bradford who can pull in crowds of 12,000 on a weekly basis are making cutbacks and releasing the top earning players.

More from Chris later in the week here on Givemefootball.
