Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy has revealed that midfielder Fraser McLachlan could remain sidelined for the rest of the season.

McLachlan twisted his knee in Saturday's opening-day 2-2 draw against Hereford and had to be substituted after just 12 minutes.

A scan has revealed ligament damage, and McIlroy said: "It's a massive blow for Fraser and the club."

He added: "Two years ago he missed the whole season after breaking his leg and it looks like the same could happen again.

"I'm devastated for the lad and he doesn't deserve that sort of luck."

McIlroy is aiming to bring in a replacement ahead of Saturday's trip to Burton.

"I'm interested in a player and will see if I can do anything by the weekend," he said.
