Struggling Gillingham have avoided slipping into administration after chairman Paul Scally held talks with the club´s bankers. The League One side, who were knocked out of the FA Cup by non-league minnows Burscough and saw manager Neale Cooper resign following Saturday´s defeat at Walsall, are around £9.5million in debt. There were fears the bank would bring in their own people to oversee the cost-cutting but Scally has persuaded them the current debt can be managed, although the Gills´ already threadbare squad is likely to be reduced still further as a result.
