A rare goal from Martin Gritton handed Chesterfield a rare away victory as they triumphed 1-0 at Morecambe.

Gritton headed home a Barry Conlon cross after 17 minutes to give John Sheridan's side a valuable three points.

Morecambe failed to take advantage of Chesterfield being reduced to 10 men in the first half when Frankie Artus was sent off for a second bookable offence.

The Spireites were denied a second goal in the 22nd minute when Conlon's overhead kick hit the post, while the home side also hit the woodwork twice through Phil Jevons and Craig Stanley.

Tommy Lee also saved well from a Stanley header and a last-gasp strike from Will Haining but the Chesterfield defence held out superbly.
