Torquay boss Paul Buckle hailed his side's performance following their 3-1 win at fellow strugglers Darlington.

The visitors opened up a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Mark Ellis and Eunan O'Kane, but Curtis Main pulled a goal back for Darlington before Mustapha Carayol made the game safe late on.

Buckle said: "It was a very difficult game against a side who have had results against teams higher up the league than ourselves. We knew it would be tough but we showed great character."

He added: "We have been working on set plays and that paid off with the first goal. Mark took it well and smashed the ball into the top corner.

"We upped our game, got a second and then they got back into it. Mustapha deserves credit for the way that he came off the bench and got his reward with that third goal.

"I think that's five (without defeat) for us now so we are on a good run at the minute. We are showing that we can compete and we can cope."
