Torquay have secured the services of central defender Guy Branston on a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old journeyman enjoyed a successful loan spell at Plainmoor at the end of last season, playing 16 times for the Gulls and helping them finish 17th in League Two. Paul Buckle's men went unbeaten for the final eight games of the season, keeping clean sheets in the final seven and Branston played a big part of that success.

Buckle is delighted with the acquisition and told the club's official website: "Guy is already a firm favourite with the supporters and it is a great addition for the club. He had other offers on the table which would probably have given him more money but Torquay United is the place he wants to be at and we welcome him back."

He added: "Guy will bring a wealth of experience to a young squad.

"He made a huge difference to us last season at just the right time and formed a formidable partnership with Mark Ellis which was continued by Kieran Charnock when he returned to the team."
