Torquay boss Paul Buckle couldn’t contain his excitement after the Football League new boys were handed a home fixture to start the new campaign.

The Gulls entertain Chesterfield at Plainmoor and Buckle is positive the town will be crackling with atmosphere beforehand as their two-year hiatus in the Blue Square Premier League officially comes to an end.

He said: "To start off with a home match is fantastic; it will be a great buzz to have our first game back in the Football League at Plainmoor.

“Chesterfield will be a tough game, and with Crystal Palace to follow on the Tuesday in the Carling Cup it shows that we have achieved everything we wanted and it is sinking in that we are back in the Football League.

"It is important now that all the pre-season games, and all of the training, are geared towards the game against Chesterfield.

“I'm delighted that we are at home as well on Boxing Day (Hereford)! We don't want to be travelling too far from Plainmoor at that time if possible, but Christmas is a long way away and we have always looked at the challenges directly ahead of us."
