Lincoln ended the season in 13th place and manager Peter Jackson is already busy reshaping his squad for what he hopes will be a promotion challenge next term after releasing seven players at Sincil Black.

One of the main priorities for the Imps’ boss is to increase his options up front, with Lincoln scoring just 53 goals in their 46 league games last term. City signed off the campaign with a disappointing 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Aldershot but, as givemefootball’s Mark Shail discovered, Jackson is already planning to bolster his attack but is well aware that quality strikers don’t come cheep.

IT MUST HAVE BEEN A FRUSTRATING WAY TO END THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST ALDERSHOT?

That game was probably the story of our season, we could have been two or three up by half time but we didn’t take our chances. We were desperate to get a result and probably created enough chances to win two games, but we didn’t take them. That has been our problem this season, scoring goals at home.

ARE YOU IN THE MARKET FOR A COUPLE OF STRIKERS THIS SUMMER?
That is going to be a key area for us because with Ben Wright and Geoff Horsfield leaving we definitely need to address that situation. It’s going to be key but forwards with pedigree cost a lot of money in terms of wages and transfer fees. We may have to look below that level because we cannot compete with clubs in our division for certain players.

ARE THE BOARD GOING TO MAKE FUNDS AVAILABLE FORYOU TO BRING IN NEW RECRUITS?
The board have been right behind my decisions and their support has been absolutely superb. Some people may moan and groan that I don’t have enough money and don’t get me wrong, Peter Jackson thinks he doesn’t have enough money at times but what I do have from the board is backing in everything I do. If they can afford it, they will move and heaven and earth to pull it off.

YOU SEEM TO HAVE A GREAT WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM?
What I like about them is that that they let me run the club how I want to. They don’t stick their noses in. It is a well run club that is lacking success and during my time here I will try to being them success because this club has been without it for far too long.

YOU’VE OFFERED NEW DEALS TO MOSES SWAIBU, STEVE CLARKE AND AARON BROWN, BUT IT LOOKS AS THOUGH OUT-OF-CONTRACT PLAYMAKER DANY N’GUESSAN MAY LEAVE THE CLUB, DOESN’T IT?
Moses, Steve and Aaron have all impressed me with their attitude and application and are fully deserving of their new contracts. Dany is a very good player. His standards have dropped a little bit but the standards of the clubs watching him have not. He will have no problem in getting fixed up.
