Lincoln manager Chris Sutton was proud of his new charges as he began his managerial career with a 1-0 victory over Aldershot at Sincil Bank.

Sergio Torres scored the decisive goal seven minutes from time after he was played in by Richard Butcher, and the win lifted the Imps up to 18th in the League Two table.

Sutton said: "On balance I thought we deserved to win the game. We restricted Aldershot to just a few chances and created opportunities ourselves."

He added: "It was a big game for us, but we've got to make sure we don't get too far ahead of ourselves.

"The players did everything we asked of them. At times they made one or two mistakes, but it was a real mammoth effort. I'm really proud of the players."
