Jack Lester has been an instant success since his move from Nottingham Forest to Chesterfield in the summer. The 32-year-old striker immediately settled in and is the club's leading with fast-approaching 20 goals so far. This impressive record has earned the Sheffield-born striker the December fans' player of the month award in League Two. Givemefootball's Lawrie Madden caught up with him, and first asked him about receiving our exclusive award.

Q:HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE PLAYER OF THE MONTH?

A:Great. I think scoring against Mansfield had a lot to do with it. It was a local derby and if you ask Chesterfield fans about the game this is the one they all talk about and want to win. I came back from injury and scored so I think a lot of fans voted for me.

Q:HAVE YOU SET ANY GOAL TARGETS FOR THE SEASON?

A:I have scored 17 goals so far this season but I don't really set targets. When I played at Forest I played a lot deeper – in the hole behind the strikers- now I'm up front and it appears chances are coming more.

Q:IS THIS YOUR BEST-EVER SEASON FOR GOALS...SO FAR?

A:I scored early on in the season and have been on a bit of a roll. Things drop to you and after you put the first one away your confidence grows. At Sheffield United I scored 15, so far this has been a good season for me.

Q:WHAT ABOUT CHESTERFIELD'S CHANCES OF PROMOTION?

A:I think everyone believes we are good enough to go up. We have dropped points at home, but our away form has been outstanding. We just need to get some more three points at home.

Q:WHO DO YOU SEE CLAIMING THE AUTOMATIC SPOTS?

A:I think that you look at MK Dons and Peterborough, who play good football, and Darlington who have a good defence. There are a lot of teams who are big and physical. I think we are one of the top two sides in this division and if we got promoted we would do well in the next league.

Q:DO YOU THINK YOUR FORM MIGHT LEAD TO ANY APPROACHES FROM OTHER CLUBS THIS MONTH?

A:I'm happy here. I came to the club in the summer because I wanted to settle in this area. I live in Nottingham and very close to Chesterfield and that suits me fine. I'm in no rush to move.
