Southend United have confirmed the signing Jemal Johnson on a one-year deal.

The 26-year-old, formerly over Blackburn Rovers and Wolverhampton Wanderers, makes the move to Roots Hall following a spell with Lokomotiv Sofia.

After helping the Bulgarian side qualify for the Europa League, the winger has made the move back to England to join Paul Sturrocks Southend.

Johnson said: "It has been six months since I last played in England and Southend is an exciting club to be at," he told the official website today.

"I have a manager who has said a lot of good things to me and is really positive about this season, so I wanted to be a part of it.

"I almost came here in January as Southend were one of the sides who wanted to take me on.

"There were a lot of people speaking to me at the time who made me make a different decision.

"I don't regret that but thankfully I have come here now and we have a chance to work together."
