Julian Joachim is one of the more experienced players Leeds United have signed in an effort to regain the Premiership place they lost last season. Last Saturday, the former Aston Villa, Leicester and Coventry striker was in the Leeds side that twice came back from a goal down to clinch a 2-2 draw at Crewe. After the game Julian spoke to Brian Beard.

Q:OBVIOUSLY A GOOD POINT, AWAY FROM HOME, BUT YOU MUST HAVE FELT DURING THE GAME THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE GOT ALL THREE?

A:Yes, definitely, we started the game with a good tempo and created a number of chances. Unfortunately we never put the ball in the back of the net from those chances, in the first half. Had we done so it could have been a different game but in the end we were left fighting for a point.

Q:AFTER A SLOW START LEEDS SEEMED TO GET STRONGER?

A:I agree, and yes we had a couple of good chances. When you play away you expect the home team to start off the better of the two sides, that's happened to us on a few occasions, but we got ourselves back in the game and enjoyed a lot of the ball.

Q:YOU WENT CLOSE WITH A PRETTY SPECTACULAR OVERHEAD VOLLEY?

A:Yes, it was half a chance but there was no way I could have kept it down. In the second half I got my head to one which came back off the crossbar but we scored from the rebound with Danny Pugh getting his head to it.

Q:THAT SEEMS TO BE HIS TRADEMARK AT THE MOMENT, POPPING UP IN THE BOX TO SNAP UP CHANCES?

A:Danny has done very well and deserves to be top scorer with five goals. Good luck to him and long may it continue.

Q:YOU`RE PLAYING UP FRONT WITH BRIAN DEANE, IS THAT A PARTNERSHIP YOU ENJOY?

A:Yes, and there's also Michael Ricketts up there as well so we've got some good options. I've always played up front with a big man, which is a massive help. We have a good understanding and things are looking good at the minute.

Q:THE LAST COUPLE OF RESULTS HAVE BEEN GOOD FOR THE TEAM AND IS PART OF A GOOD RUN WHICH YOU NEEDED?

A:That's right, and the run we're on gives us something to work from and we are getting better as a team. The results are showing that and it's something we have to maintain.

Q:HAVE YOU HAD A CHANCE NOW TO ASSESS THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND SEE HOW STRONG IT IS?

A:Obviously I have played in this division for the last three years, with Coventry, and it's a tough league which we have all got to adapt to. We are a new team but obviously getting a run together is vitally important. So far, so good.
