David Penney was celebrating after Darlington hit the top of the table for the first time this season after inflicting further misery on Grimsby. The Quakers racked up a 2-1 victory at Blundell Park to stretch the Mariners winless run to 22 games.
He said: "It's a great result. Everybody is expecting you to win because Grimsby have not won for so long so there was a certain amount of pressure on us. I thought we started the game well although to be fair we had the wind in the first half. We got a couple of goals and could have had some more."
The Quakers leapfrog Wycombe who remain unbeaten after a goalless draw at Rotherham that left Peter Taylor satisfied. "Rotherham are a good team," said the former England boss. "To have had points deducted and be in the position they are in now is absolutely outstanding, so a point away from home here is very good.
"We didn't create much in the first-half but I thought we improved in the second and if anybody was going to score it was us. I fancied us to get a goal. This is not an easy place to come and play and we were playing against a good team so overall I am pleased with the performance, and when we switched to 4-4-2 I fancied us to score - but we didn't."
Bradford slip to third after a pulsating 3-3 draw with Barnet whilst Paul Tisdale was relieved to see Exeter get back to winning ways and climb to fourth following their midweek 6-1 home drubbing by Chesterfield. "You can't really ask for much more and it was job well done," he said after their 2-0 win over Chester.
"We have had a long four days, actually, as we wanted this game to come around very quickly. The reality of Tuesday was that we were beaten 6-1 and we needed a performance of a certain type. It was gritty and sometimes messy on a dead pitch, but it was professional and it was a job well done and I am exhausted and relieved after four hard days."
Paul Simpson was another happy manager as his Shrewsbury side stay within two points of the summit after cruising past rock-bottom Luton 3-0.
Simpson said: "We needed that win. We knew it would be hard against the teams fighting for their lives but we got nearly back to our best and scored some good goals. The second (goal) was a lot longer coming than I wanted but Ben (Davies) hit a beauty and Grant (Holt) came up with a bit of cheekiness."
Keith Hill called for more of the same from Rochdale after last season's beaten play-off finalists climbed into sixth place with a 2-1 at Brentford. "When we looked at it, we thought three points from the last two would be a good return but we've taken six and there's no reason why we can't build on this and go on a lengthy unbeaten run," he said after stretching their unbeaten run to six games.
"We looked very, very solid and I thought we dominated the first half and could have been three up by the break. They came back into it in the second half but we stood up well to the pressure to take a very impressive three points."
Bury stay in contention after a 1-0 triumph at Notts County whilst Dagenham & Redbridge were frustrated by Accrington Stanley in a goalless draw at Victoria Road. Gillingham won 1-0 at struggling Macclesfield whilst Lincoln boss Peter Jackson was unhappy after their run of four straight wins came to a juddering halt at Sincil Bank. Port Vale played party poopers and returned to the Potteries with a 1-0 win under their belts.
