Macclesfield manager Keith Alexander claimed his side were due to dish out a thrashing after the 4-1 win over Crewe.

Ben Wright, Paul Bolland, Colin Daniel and Ricky Sappleton helped Macc to an impressive three points, with Calvin Zola replying for the visitors.

"This has been coming for some time," said Alexander. "We have been playing reasonably well and should have won at Shrewsbury. I'm just delighted that we've had good form in front of our own supporters."

He added: "I've always said judge me by Christmas and we're beginning to improve.

"The problem is that we've surrendered leads in six or seven games this season and really should have at least seven or eight more points.

"Other teams know that we are a good side now and will be prepared for us."
