Keith Alexander lavished praise on Matt Tipton after he was instrumental in guiding them to their first win of the season.

Tipton, who is starting his third spell at Moss Rose, was on target in their 2-0 win over Port Vale, and the Silkmen boss waxed lyrical about his striker.

He said: "That's why we brought Tipton back to the club. We all know what he can do and he's produced early in the season.

"It's the first time I've had an opportunity to play Hamza Bencherif in midfield and he certainly looks like he's going to be a player for us.

"It was great to bounce back after such a disappointing performance against Notts County, just the response I was looking for and we'll go into the game at Crewe with much more confidence.”
