Bradford manager Stuart McCall revealed he was preparing to stand down from his post following his side's 1-0 defeat at the hands of promotion-chasing Bury.
The Bantams have won just once in their last seven league outings and find themselves languishing in the lower reaches of the League Two table, despite pre-season expectations of a promotion push.
McCall said he would meet with joint chairman Julian Rhodes on Monday to discuss his future at the club, and said: "I think this is the time for someone else to take up the reins. I love being manager of this club, but this is a results-based business."
He added: "I have 18 months of my contract left, but that is irrelevant - I will do what is best for the club.
"Last season was failure with the squad we had. This season if we had another eight points it would be a fair reflection of what we deserve and we would have been pushing for the play-offs. It is disappointing things have not worked out for me here, but that is life."
Bury boss Alan Knill had contrasting emotions to McCall after seeing his side bolster their automatic promotion prospects with their second win in a week.
"That was a tough game," Knill admitted. "Bradford threw everything at us and we had a bit of luck, but if you battle and work as hard as possible you earn your luck.
"This is our fifth win away from home and credit goes to the players. They go into every game with no real fear. The squad is looking strong in all positions and we have got players who are experienced.
"All my players are back, fit and hungry and they want to do something this year.
"There is a real confidence and focus about them. The win over Rochdale in midweek was huge and added belief to the squad."
