Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy has revealed Michael Twiss and Andy Parrish were unable to play against Northampton because they had been involved in a car crash.

The pair were left shaken after the car they were travelling in, along with Danny Adams, was in a collision on Saturday morning.

Adams was able to play but Parrish was not even involved in the squad while Twiss was named as an unused substitute.

McIlroy said: "I asked Michael if he felt OK to come on in the second half and he said he still had a bad head and didn't feel well enough.

"It wasn't a major accident but it was clear it affected him and Andy Parrish, who I couldn't even name as a sub.

"Danny Adams wasn't feeling at his best but gave it everything."
