If I don't score another goal this season and we keep picking up enough points to stay up, I won't mind....

Last Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Mansfield leaves Wrexham still propping up the rest of the League Two table. However, with a number of games in hand on their relegation rivals, there is still a chance Brian Little's side could escape the drop even though then they remain six points adrift of safety at the moment. Striker Michael Proctor took his seasonal tally to nine with the equaliser against fellow strugglers Mansfield at the Racecourse on Saturday and, as givemefootball's Mark Shail discovered, the club's leading scorer is hoping more goals will follow in the crucial 14-game run-in.

Q:YOU MUST HAVE BEEN HAPPY TO GET ON THE SCORESHEET ON SATURDAY?

A:I was pleased to get a goal. Before a game, that's what every striker wants top do. I don't set myself any targets, although I now want to get into double figures. But it's more important for the team to be picking up points and it doesn't matter who scores the goals if we do that.

Q:I SUPPOSE STAYING UP IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ON YOUR MIND?

A:If I don't score another goal this season and we keep picking up enough points to stay up, I won't mind. Hopefully I'll get a lot more goals, and those goals turn out to be important ones for Wrexham.

Q:AND YOU PLAYED FROM THE START AGAINST MANSFIELD AFTER A SPELL ON THE BENCH?

A:I couldn't have any complaints with the way the lads have been playing lately, getting results we were not expected to. Obviously you want to start games and I was delighted with that. I've spoken to the gaffer a few times recently, pestering him to play me. I was happy to get back in, although I was disappointed with the overall performance and the result.

Q:WHAT WERE THE PROBLEMS WITH THE PERFORMANCE AGAINST MANSFIELD?

A:The game didn't seem to get going and we didn't play until they scored. We were better after that and got after them, but it was disappointing we took so long to start. We know we can do better. We were happy with the point in the end because we didn't play well and we will have to do better this weekend against Chester.

Q:AND THAT'S ANOTHER CRUCIAL GAME, ISN'T IT?

A:It's a massive game on Sunday and I can't wait for it. It would be a big game anyway, and it's a derby, but there is added incentive because we need points. We know how important the game is and I, like all the lads, am really looking forward to it. These are the types of games you want to be involved in. I'd like to keep my place and hopefully I'll start again.

Q:ARE YOU CONFIDENT THE CLUB CAN HAUL THEMSELVES OUT OF TROUBLE?

A:The team spirit has been brilliant and we still believe we can play better and get out of trouble. But there's no point talking about it – we have to go out and do it. Performances have been good and we're looking more solid at the back but we have to start scoring goals and picking up more points. We've got some big game coming up and we've got to create more chances and take those opportunities when they come.
