Bury striker Andy Morrell insists he has plenty more petrol in the tank at the age of 34 and fully expects to be tormenting defences again next term.

The Shakers striker bagged nine goals for Bury last year after his move from Blackpool, although they missed out in the play-offs and he is hoping to take it one stage further this season.

“I played a lot more games than I was thinking I would last season,” Morrell told the Bury Times.

“I’m pleased with that but I am a little disappointed with my goals return.

“I always want more goals, but I have got another season left on my contract and I’m sure I will be firing on all cylinders again with a good pre-season under my belt. There are some very good youngsters here that played a lot of games last season.

“The manager has done really well, so we need everyone to stay together and, with a few more additions, we can keep moving on.

“I think there are players here that can play at a higher level - some players will find it easier, people like Michael Jones who would get more time to play. David Buchanan played every minute of every game last season and that is a great testament to a young player.

“He has been different class in his new position, but a lot of the players stood up to the plate last season to be counted when they were needed. We are defensively sound and we create chances so that makes a good team. As long as we continue to create chances, the strikers will get goals.”
