Luton manager Mike Newell has been charged with abusive and/or insulting words towards match officials. The charge relates to Newell´s conduct during the match at Preston on Saturday, when he was sent to the stands by referee Darren Drysdale before half-time, and he has until February 28 to respond. Newell has also been asked to explain his post-match comments about the officials. After the 5-1 defeat at Deepdale - in which Hatters goalkeeper Marlon Beresford was also sent off - Newell branded Drysdale and fourth official Steven Cummins "arrogant and incompetent".
