Kevin Dillon admitted he was delighted to be back in football after being unveiled as Aldershot Town’s new manger but insists he will be doing things his way.
Whilst praising the work of his predecessor Gary Waddock and interim boss Jason Dodd, Dillon knows he will live or die by his own decisions in his first managerial role.
"It's good to get back in the game," Dillon told the Farnborough News & Mail. "I'm sick of gardening, hoovering and dusting.
"Gary (Waddock) brought some good players together. After he left, Jason Dodd did a great job stabilising things. This is a successful team and I am looking forward to working with them.
"I have spoken to Gary and will probably do so again but I'm now in charge and will decide what to do. There are some tough games ahead but that is a challenge - and one I am really looking forward to. I'd like to be on the edge of the play-offs towards the end of the season, to give the supporters a bit of excitement.
"I don't want the season to peter out and I don't think that is going to happen. But the club has recently been promoted and 15th was a good finish last season. If we can finish higher that is success for me."
The 49-year-old former Reading coach has signed a deal lasting until 2011. He told BBC Surrey: "To be perfectly honest, what I see here is just to continue what's happening now.
"I won't be coming in and making major changes. The team here have come through the most successful period since it was re-created in 1992."
He continued: "I'm just hoping that I can build on that and the players we've got now will be part of that hopefully. From what I've seen, they're all good footballers. Most of them are good on the ball, they like to pass the ball."
