Port Vale target Gareth Owen says there is "more than a chance" of him joining the League Two side in the current transfer window.

The defender has been on loan with The Valiants from Stockport County, and a permanent deal was set to go ahead, but fell through when County refused to release him.

The 26-year-old former Stoke trainee told The Sentinel: "There is still a great chance of me joining Port Vale - more than a chance. I was all set to sign on the Monday (Jan 5), but Stockport wouldn't give the go-ahead."

He added: "If I'd been released by Stockport I'm sure I'd be a Vale player by now. It's out of my hands at the moment and it all depends on what Stockport want to do. I spoke to Vale last week and I believe the deal is still on the table."
