Paul Peschisolido has been an unsung hero for Sheffield United in the last couple of seasons, often coming on as sub and changing the course of a game with vital goals and assists. But now the Canadian international may have turned the corner and finally established himself as a first team regular after starting the last couple of games for the promotion-chasing Blades. Givemefootball's Lawrie Madden caught up with him after his brace of goals in United's 5-0 defeat of local rivals Rotherham last night.
Q:YOU SCORED A COUPLE OF GOALS AND SEEM TO BE SECURING A REGULAR START. HAPPY WITH THAT?
A:It was nice to get a full 90 minutes under my belt and good to be making a greater contribution - it was even better to get a couple of goals. At the end of the day strikers are judged by goals. It is all very well doing a lot of good things around the box but goals win games.
Q:YOU SEEM TO HAVE A KNACK OF BEING IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME?
A:Well it seems that way at the moment but I will take any goal anyway it comes, the back of the head or the backside. Rotherham caught us on a night when everything went for us. It was a good result and I managed to get a couple of goals so if I carry on scoring then it will be difficult for the manager to leave me out.
Q:WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF THE FIRST DIVISIONTHIS SEASON?
A:This division is always hard and there are always one or two surprise packages. The teams that come down are well organised and have a lot of good players which makes it difficult for the rest of us.
Q:IS THERE MORE PRESSURE ON YOU THIS SEASON AFTER WHAT HAPPENED LAST?
A:If there is more pressure on us then we certainly don't feel it. I don't think anyone is expecting a season like last year, in terms of the two cup runs, but we believe we are a good side and capable of challenging for promotion again. That's the priority.
Q:AFTER THE FOREST DEFEAT AT THE WEEKEND HOW IMPORTANT WAS IT TO GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS QUICKLY?
A:Very important. We showed a lot of character after the Forest defeat. To score five goals was a credit to the team because I don't think we scored five in any victory last season. When you lose a game it is very important not to lose ground so the next game is vital and especially at home where Bramall Lane has been good for us.
Q:WHAT'S BEEN THE KEY TO THE CLUB'S PROGRESS OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS?
A:The atmosphere at the club is very good. We have a great bunch of lads. Last season went well and I think we have shown that it was not luck and that we have some very good players and the additions to the squad have improved us as well.
Q:YOU SEEM TO BE TICKING ALONG NICELY, AND ALMOST UNNOTICED?
A:Yes we are happy to go on our merry way and just keep getting three points as often as we can. Last season the fans were great but this season they seem to be supporting us better than ever. We have got good results at home and it is important for the fans because it gives them hope for the rest of the season. There is no reason why we cannot be up there at the end of the season because we believe we are a good side.
