Andy Porter has revealed he was "devastated" to lose out on the vacant manager's job at Port Vale and rubbished reports he turned down the chance to be assistant boss.
The 40-year-old was placed in temporary charge of the League Two club alongside Dean Glover, however after the latter was awarded the job on a permanent basis, Porter has returned to his duties with the youth team.
Speaking about losing out on the manager's position, Porter told The Sentinel: "I was devastated I didn't get the job. I felt ready for it when Lee Sinnott got it and I was in the top three. This time I was in the top two and felt I was well prepared for it."
Reports later surfaced that Porter rejected the chance to become Glover's number two, speculation he vehemently denies.
He continued: "I asked Dean what role he wanted me to do and he didn't think I was the man for the job. For people to say I declined the job is wrong. I wanted the manager's job and after that I wanted the assistant's job.
"I've been here a long time and the manager's job is what I wanted. If that was not to be then I thought I'd at least get the assistant manager's job."
