Macclesfield chairman Mike Rance has urged out-of-contract striker Gareth Evans to stay at the club next season.

Evans is wanted by League Two rivals Lincoln, but as he is under 24 Macclesfield are entitled to a compensation fee which the Imps do not want to pay.

"Lincoln are not willing to meet this condition and we don't think it appropriate for us to forego our right in this respect," Rance told Macc's official website.

"We would really like Gareth to stay with us as an important part of our new strikeforce and benefit from the improvements we are putting in place over the summer."
