Summer signing Oliver Risser has been named as Swindon's captain for the 2011/12 season.

The 30-year-old Namibia international midfielder penned a two-year deal with the Robins earlier this month following a successful trial at the club.

"I am used to being captain in my career and I am a person who lives my football from inside, I am a passionate person," Risser told the club's official website. "I like to be a leader and I have captained quite a few teams in my career."

His appointment as skipper comes after manager Paolo Di Canio handed him the armband for the first 45 minutes of both of Town's recent pre-season outings in Italy.

Risser missed the club's 4-0 victory at Swindon Supermarine on Tuesday night with a minor injury sustained in training, with Jonathan Smith, Raffaele De Vita, Callum Kennedy and Etienne Esajas getting the goals.

Trialist Esajas was making his latest appearance for the Robins and a decision on his future is expected imminently, with the former Sheffield Wednesday forward expected to be rewarded with a deal at the County Ground.
