Mark Yates' struggling Cheltenham side produced a resilient display to claim a shock away point with a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth.

Second-placed Bournemouth enjoyed the better of a hard-fought encounter, but they were unable to breach a spirited Robins rearguard.

Brett Pitman was the first to threaten for the Cherries in the ninth minute, but his acrobatic overhead kick was kept out by Scott Brown.

Josh Low fired wide for Cheltenham moments later, but there were to be few further chances in the opening 45 minutes.

When the next opportunity did arrive shortly before the half-hour, Joss Labadie headed wide for the visitors from David Bird's corner.

Pitman then lifted a shot over the bar and Steven Fletcher headed wide from 12 yards as the hosts continued to press.

Pitman had another chance for Bournemouth with four minutes remaining when he was picked out by Rhoys Wiggins' cross, but the striker dragged his shot wide of Brown's right-hand post.

Brown had to be alert to parry away a Pitman free-kick and Jeff Goulding spurned two opportunities for Eddie Howe's men in a frantic finish.
