Macclesfield Town

Morecambe

Teenage striker Ricky Sappleton earned Macclesfield a precious point with a stunning late strike in their 2-2 draw with Morecambe.

The powerhouse centre-forward neatly controlled a flick-on from substitute Ben Wright before powering home a 20-yard volley that squeezed in at the near post.

Macclesfield had taken the lead in the 37th minute when former Liverpool trainee Craig Lindfield scored on his home debut converting a low Lee Bell cross from close range.

But Morecambe produced a stunning second-half comeback. They might have taken the lead in the 47th minute when a David Artell header was fingertipped over the bar by Jon Brain but they didn't have long to wait with Stewart Drummond firing home a 12-yard volley in the 52nd minute.

They took the lead 12 minutes later when Will Haining played a neat one-two off Phil Jevons before sliding the ball home at the far post. Morecambe thought they'd stole it at the death but another powerful Artell header was cleared off the line by Carl Tremarco.
