He may be 34 years young, but much-travelled Wycombe striker Scott McGleish is enjoying the most productive season of his career, with 20 league goals already to his name this term. His previous best league tally was 24 so, with 11 games still remaining, McGleish has a wonderful chance to rack up his highest ever total. Wanderers are currently sitting in a play-off position in League Two but their chance of an automatic promotion spot suffered a blow after last Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Lincoln. Givemefootball's Mark Shail caught up with McGleish to get his thoughts on the campaign so far.

Q:YOU MUST BE DELIGHTED WITH YOUR GOALS RETURN THIS SEASON?

A:Yes, things have gone very well on a personal level and to score 20 league goals at this stage is very pleasing. But from a team point of view we should have got a few more points on the board and then we would have been right up there towards the top of the table.

Q:WHAT IS YOUR GOALS RECORD FOR A SEASON?

A:The most I've previously scored is 24, but only 17 of those came in the league. With 11 games left I would like to think I've got a chance of getting close to 25 and 23 is the club record here at Wycombe.

Q:DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE BECOME A BETTER PLAYER AS YOU'VE GOT OLDER?

A:Well, I've scored 80 goals since I've been in my 30s and only scored 80 between the ages of 20 to 30, so that tells its own story. When you're a bit more mature and experienced you instinctively know where to be in the box. With that experience comes more consistency, whereas when you're younger you're a bit more naïve and less consistent.

Q:YOU MUST HAVE BEEN DISAPPOINTED WITH THE RESULT AT LINCOLN?

A:Yes, we didn't play well and didn't create a lot of chances. They scored a good goal and from then on we were chasing the game but never really got going. One of our problems recently is that we haven't been scoring enough goals.

Q:I SUPPOSE THAT MAKES YOUR CONTRIBUTION EVEN MORE IMPORTANT?

A:We've scored 43 goals in the league this season and I've got 20 of those so we really do need to start chipping from other areas. Our goals difference is the worst of all the sides in the top seven and that's something we need to improve on.

Q:HAS THE CHANCE OF AN AUTOMATIC PROMOTION SPOT GONE NOW?

A:I suppose it looks that way after our defeat on Saturday and all the clubs at the top winning. We would need to win most of remaining games to have a chance and the other sides to drop points. But the most important thing is that we had a good run between now and the end of the season and get some momentum going into what we hope will be the play-offs.

Q:WHICH SIDE HAS IMPRESSED YOU THE MOST THIS SEASON?

A:I like Darlington – they are well organised, play good football and don't concede a lot of goals. I think they've conceded only 23 times in the league this season and that included a 5-1 defeat in one of their games. When I got promoted with Northampton we only conceded 24 goals and having that solid base always gives you the chance to win matches.
