Assistant manager Scott Sellars was thrilled for Derek Niven as Chesterfield ground out a valuable 2-1 win over lowly Grimsby.

Drew Talbot and Niven, who has only recently returned to the squad after recovering from testicular cancer, scored from long range and although Ryan Bennett replied, the Spireites held on to keep their play-off push alive.

Sellars summed up the feelings of everyone at the club when he said: "With what has happened to Derek this year everyone is delighted for him to get such a fantastic goal."

The assistant boss added: "We never really got going in the first half but I didn't think either team did, we were testing each other out.

"But this is the time of year when we are getting to the business end of the season and we knew it was going to be close.

"We were under a lot of pressure at the end but once again the back four were excellent."
