John Sheridan has been confirmed as Chesterfield manager on a three-year contract.

The former Republic of Ireland midfielder, 44, returns to management after being sacked as Oldham boss in March.

He succeeds Lee Richardson, who left the Coca-Cola League Two club at the end of last season after failing to lead the Spireites into the play-offs.

Sheridan is joined at Saltergate by former Latics coaching colleagues Tommy Wright and Mark Crossley, meaning Richardson's assistant Scott Sellars - a former team-mate of Sheridan's at Bolton in the mid-90s - leaves the club.
