Shrewsbury have withdrawn their appeal against Steve Leslie`s red card versus Bury meaning he will definitely miss the play-off final at Wembley.

Shrews on Monday revealed they would look to overturn the decision to show midfielder Leslie a straight red in Sunday`s semi-final second leg triumph over the Shakers, but manager Paul Simpson felt there was not enough evidence to support a claim and believes an appeal could actually lead to a further ban.

He told the club`s official website: "After consultation with the referees and the Football Association, the club has taken the decision to retract the appeal as it was felt the video evidence does not put the referee`s decision in doubt."

He added: "It was felt the appeal could be seen as a frivolous one and if it went against the club then Steve could receive another game ban to add to the three he already has.

"Everyone at the club feels for Steve and has sympathy with his position, but sometimes you have to take decisions that look at the bigger picture."
