Stuart McCall insists that Peter Thorne would rather hang up his boots than join another lower league club as he loves life at the Bantams.
The
Bradford City boss is trying to persuade
Thorne to ink a new one-year deal and is optimistic the veteran striker will put pen to paper at Valley Parade.
He told the Bradford Telegraph & Argus: “He may possibly get a package elsewhere that’s better than what we can put to him, but I don’t see him at many other clubs in our division.
“I could be wrong but I don’t think Thorney would have that same desire if it meant him going out to play in front of only 4,000 every week.
“Listening to him, I know how much it has meant to perform with our fans behind him. Pete’s a genuine lad who’s enjoyed his football with us and the buzz that the crowds give him.
“I also like to think he’s got a good relationship with myself. He’s a good role model of professionalism. He’s popular in the dressing room and good to have about. It would be a loss if he wasn’t here but he’s got to weigh things up.”
Gillingham
Finally,
Gillingham captain
Barry Fuller is hoping the Gills’ play-off success against
Shrewsbury can be used as a springboard.
The Kent club will start League One next year as one of the underdogs in the race for promotion, but Fuller wants to ruffle a few feathers.
He told the Kent Messenger: "Next year we may bring a few new faces in and kick on. We’re young and hungry. We want more and we’re not stopping here. You never know what is going to happen next year.
"This has shown what we are all about. We’re a good footballing side and when it comes down to fitness and working other sides, we’re brilliant. It’s been a massive season and it has ended great for us."
