Peter Taylor remained in defiant despite seeing his
Wycombe side fall further off the pace after slumping to a 1-0 defeat at
Bradford.
The Chairboys held the longest unbeaten record in the country and sat proudly at the top of League Two for months but are now three points adrift of Brentford and the chasing pack are closing in but Taylor is in upbeat mood despite losing
Chris Zebroski to a red card.
He said: "I thought that was our best performance of this year without a doubt. It was a poor decision by Chris so it was a red card. To lose a match is bad enough, but to lose another man for three matches is not right so I'm not happy with him."
Bury boss Alan Knill praised his deadly strike duo
Andy Morrell and
Andy Bishop after they came from behind to win 2-1 at struggling Grimsby and move level on points with Wycombe.
"I'm delighted with the win," said Knill, "especially after coming in 1-0 down at half time. But I have to say I thought that even in the first half we had the better chances.
“We conceded a poor goal but we have been there before. We were 1-0 down at Luton and came back to win comfortably and I thought we did here as well.
"I said at half time as we were walking off 'don't panic, we have quality and we will create chances again'. We moved the ball around the pitch really well without having the killer bit at the top end. But I always felt we had enough to get back in the game.
"It's another goal apiece and I'm delighted. They had chances to have more than one goal each but I'll take that, as long as they put that shift in for the team."
With all of the top eight winning apart from Wycombe, Shrewsbury manager launched a broadside at the critics who he feels are undermining his side’s promotion hopes. The Shrews beat Chesterfield 2-1 to move stay in the top seven but Simpson called for a more rational approach to proceedings.
"When you lose, everyone's suicidal," said Simpson. "There are still changes I want to make at this club. There have been some ridiculous statements said this week. It's an absolute joke.
"The players all believe in each other, so now people outside the club need to do the same. The only thing that matters is the three points. We've set the tone with the performance, and now we need to make sure we do it properly against Chester here on Tuesday."
