Notts County have signed defender John Thompson on a month's loan from Oldham.

Thompson has struggled for first team chances at Boundary Park and is yet to make an appearance this term.

Manager Ian McParland told the club's official website: "I've worked with John in the past and he is a terrific addition to our squad. I'm grateful to John Sheridan and Oldham that we've been able to reach an agreement to get him here."

He addded: "He is a solid defender, and at this moment in time we're a bit short on the ground at the back. So I felt it was best to get someone in who can do a job for us and John can certainly do that."

The 26-year-old will be in Magpies squad for their League Two clash with Macclesfield at Meadow Lane on Saturday.
