Barnet manager Paul Fairclough has agreed an extension to the loan deal of Cheltenham defender Michael Townsend.

The 22-year-old centre-back joined the Bees on October 20 and with his current deal set to expire the clubs have negotiated to increase the stay by an extra month.

Townsend has made a impressive start to life at Underhill and helped the Bees secure draws against strong League Two opposition in Wycombe, Shrewsbury, Bradford and Rochdale.

Meanwhile, midfielder Neal Bishop has been named as the new Barnet captain after Ismail Yakubu decided to step down from the position.

Yakubu relinquished the role after talks with Fairclough in a bid to recapture his best form.

Fairclough said: "Neal is a great motivator and is quite inspirational."
