Port Vale's injured goalkeeper Joe Anyon has a 50-50 chance of being fit for the forthcoming season according to the club physio John Bower.

The 22-year-old has begun light training after suffering a fractured tibia in Vale's loss to Chesterfield in March, and whilst he is still sporting a limp, an X-ray revealed the injury is healing well. Anyon, whose treatment includes acupuncture, will hope to start jogging within the next fortnight before building up to more vigorous impact work over the following five weeks.

"I'm 50-50 over it, but we'll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks," Bower told the Staffordshire Sentinel.

"If the injury responds how I want it to, then he should be OK. If it doesn't, he may miss the first couple of weeks.

"We are in unchartered waters and we don't know how the leg is going to respond when he starts running and doing more functional stuff."
