Port Vale have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signings of Rob Kozluk and Liam Chilvers.

Kozluk is a free agent after leaving Sheffield United, where he played under Vale manager Micky Adams, at the end of last season and the 34-year-old has signed a short-term contract until January 1, 2012.

Chilvers, 30, arrives at Vale Park on a month's loan from Notts County and will provide cover for Gareth Owen and Jamie McCombe, who are struggling with injury.

"It is no secret that we have been struggling with defensive injuries and I am pleased we have been able to bring in these players," Adams told his club's official website.

"Rob Kozluk is a player I know well. He brings versatility as, although he is predominantly a right-back, he can also play on the left and as a centre-back. He is a consistent performer.

"Liam is a big centre-back who has an imposing presence. He has a lot of experience in the Football League and he brings a mature head to the side."
