Chester owner Stephen Vaughan has dismissed speculation he was set to buy fellow Coca-Cola League Two club Darlington.
Reports in the North East have linked Vaughan with a bid for the Quakers, who are in administration.
"I can categorically say that the reports and rumours are way off the mark," Vaughan told the Liverpool Daily Post. "I was approached by George Houghton about various issues and we had a conversation but that was basically it."
On Tuesday, administrators Brackenbury Clark & Co. said that they had extended the deadline for bids from last Monday to May 5 - three days after the final fixtures of the regular season.
But Vaughan swiftly rebuffed speculation linking him with the Quakers.
He added: "My focus is still with Chester City and our objective of staying in the Football League."
