Barratt Homes donate 100 footballs to Watford’s Onside project
Sports programme for youngsters benefits
Barratt North London recently launched the second year of its sponsorship of Watford’s Onside project by donating 100 footballs to the St Albans venue based at London Colney Football Club, Cotslandswick Playing Fields.
The Onside project is a social inclusion programme for youngsters and is delivered by Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust.
Watford’s on-loan midfielder, Jack Cork, was on hand to meet the participants and answer questions, pose for photographs and sign the children’s match programmes in which he featured.
Onside is a community-based project open to boys and girls aged between 8-19 years and is delivered in four areas including Dacorum, St Albans, Three Rivers and Watford.
The idea of the programme is to engage with youngsters through the use of local facilities, offering them safe and stimulating areas in which to have fun activities including football, inter-estate matches, matchday activities and art sessions as well as the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications.
Barratt North London will donate £20,000 to support this project, the second of three payments over the three-year sponsorship.
Glyn Hopping, Managing Director of Barratt Homes said: “We have built new homes in all four boroughs where Onside is being delivered and we are pleased to sponsor this worthwhile initiative which is already making a very positive impact on young people’s lives.
“I am also delighted that some of our staff have volunteered to be football coaches and will assist with various other activities as well.”
