FIFA has reached a working agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) over the implementation of WADA’s new ‘whereabouts’ rules.
All our efforts in combination with the Professional Players Federation of England and FIFPro look to have made progress with regard to the “whereabouts” rule as it now seems clear that FIFA and WADA have agreed that this should only be applied to those players with a differing pattern to the norm and previous history of a positive test together with those players on long term injury and who would not be available at club training grounds as would be the norm for most players.
FIFA officials had a working meeting with WADA’s Director General, David Howman at FIFA’s headquarters on 6th April, though of course this was after our meetings towards the end of last year with UK Sport and most particularly our meeting with David Howman and his WADA colleagues at the Sofitel, Heathrow on 16th February.
