Job Description
The Director will be an employee of SCORE. The appointment will be for a 2
year fixed term contract, home based.
The main tasks will include:
1. Supporting existing chaplains & encouraging good practice
• Making regular personal contact
• Developing support structures through networks and materials
• Nurturing unity and corporate identity amongst Score chaplains,
• Ensuring that chaplains deliver an agreed high standard of service by
providing accountability and establishing a code of practice.
2. Extending the vision of existing chaplains
• Appraising the wider network of existing chaplains of particular
schemes
• Disseminating ideas & good practice
• Encouraging chaplains involvement in community cohesion initiatives
and local faith and community groups
• Improving the availability of chaplaincy through all areas of the club
3. Developing the provision of pastoral care to football scholars
• Extending care to players below the age of 16 at Academies and
Centres of Excellence
• Offering support to parents and boys on a player’s release
• Making life skills material and information available
• Offering advice and support to all staff relating to the development and
wellbeing of boys
• Liaising with staff in relation to Education Welfare and Child Protection
4. Promoting the Work of Score and Sports Chaplaincy in Football
• Developing links between the clubs and faith groups
• Training, supporting and resourcing new chaplains
• Taking a proactive role in identifying external partnerships for SCORE
5. Developing links with football bodies.
• Meeting with the Football Steering Group three times a year
• Engaging with the pastoral needs as considered by the Premier
League, Football League & PFA
• Liaising with particular interest groups, e.g. Kick it Out, Football in the
Community to feed information into the chaplaincy network
Essential qualities
It is essential that the Pastoral Support Director:
• Can display a knowledge of the football club chaplain arrangement
• Can display commitment to working within a Faith environment
• Is a self-motivator
• Is able to work as part of a team
• Is a good listener
• Is a competent administrator
• Is an excellent communicator
• Is able to motivate and organise others
• Is able to reflect theologically and practically on the praxis of
chaplaincy
• Is prepared to work ecumenically
