Deputy PFA chief executive Bobby Barnes and senior executive Nick Cusack joined Prime Minister Gordon Brown at the recent Labour Party dinner at Stamford Bridge.

Other invited guests for the fundraising event included football commentator John Motson, newsreader Fiona Phillips and comedian Eddie Izzard.

Bobby, along with senior executive Nick Cusack, also attended the Football Supporters’ Federation Conference in Newcastle last weekend on behalf of the PFA.

Bobby spoke on diversity and Nick focussed on policing and stewarding issues, with the conference producing some topical debate on what was a productive day.

Nick and Senior Executive of Equality Simone Pound met up with Owen Tudor, who is Head of European Union Affairs and International Relations at the TUC, to discuss areas where the PFA, TUC and the Department for International Development can work together in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup.

Commercial Director Christian Smith attended the Clive Christian show room in Chelsea for a photo-shoot of their quality bespoke furniture that will be illustrated in the next issue of the Players’ Club Magazine. Christian also met former England captain David Platt for a photo-shoot for the cover story.

Chris Joslin arranged for former Chelsea and England striker Kerry Dixon to quote a message of support for the Blind World Cup team.

The Coaching Department spent five days in Sweden last week watching games in the Under 21 European Championships. Staff in attendance were Phil Church, Paul Davis, Jamie Robinson, Geoff Lomax, Brian Borrows, Julian Hayes and Jim Hicks. They saw England play twice as well as Sweden v Belarus.

Simone Pound attended a primary school workshop run by ex-Chelsea player Paul Canoville. Paul, who was the first black player to play for Chelsea, told an inspirational tale of his early childhood, his playing days and how his career ended through injury.

The Year 6 children were enthralled and motivated by the workshop, which is part of a series of programmes delivered by Canoville.

Mickey Bennett attended a TUC audit workshop at Congress House with Osher Williams and Alan Irwin. On Thursday, Mickey met Linvoy Primus at Portsmouth FC to discuss his new ambassador role.
