The Sodje family is rightly proud to have produced five footballers - Efe, Steve, Sam, Akpo and Onome - who are all currently playing at various levels of the English football league. Another football brother, Bright, is an ex-professional rugby league player.

The concept of the Foundation they have set up is to provide a range of sporting opportunities for children and young people within their local community, as well as in Africa.

The aim is to give these people the chance to achieve a healthy living and to create a positive awareness amongst them.

The aims and objectives of the Sodje Sports Foundation is to use football and other means to:

• Create stimulating learning programmes in sporting environments.

• Provide opportunities to mentor young people in key areas, developing self esteem, leadership skills and improvement of community life.

• Increase health awareness and provide well being information, with a particular focus on the HIV/AIDS issues.

• Create awareness programs about the plight of malaria in Africa and how to prevent infection by supplying medication and mosquito nets.

• Promote social inclusion, cohesion and integration amongst local communities.

The Event: July 26 2009 at Hillsborough, home of Sheffield Wednesday FC

Sheffield Wednesday and SSF alongside ‘Boots for Africa ‘and the Sheffield children’s hospital have come together to arrange a unique game of football.

The purpose of the game is to raise funds that will go towards SSF UK/Africa. Funds raised will also go towards buying malaria nets in Africa.

The game will also raise funds which will go towards Boots for Africa, which aims to deliver two million pairs of used/cleaned up, donated football boots to the children of Africa in time for the 2010 world cup in South Africa.

A substantial contribution will also be made to the Sheffield Children Hospital.

The Teams

There will be a host of ex and current footballers, as well as a host of celebrities participating in the event on both sides.

The team will be managed by a soon to be announced ex manager, and will see the return of some of Hillsborough’s favourites sons, with the likes of Mel Sterland, Terry Curran, John Sheridan, Nigel Pearson and Phil King, all scheduled to play.

Team B: Friends of Africa

The team will be managed by another Hillsborough legend to be announced, with the likes of Kanu, Cyrille Regis, Jason Roberts, Barry Hayles, Deon Burton, Johnny Nelson (Former Boxing Champion), Ibrahima Sonko, Sodje Brothers, Reverand and the makers, Jermain Johnson, Mario Melchiot, Darryl Powell, Richard Hawley and Clive Bett (MP Sheffield) to name a few.
