For John Terry to lose the England captain’s armband amidst the ongoing revelations and allegations that have dominated every newspaper in the country is obviously a disappointment for a man who has been a top professional.
But whilst the PFA is there to support both the Chelsea captain and Wayne Bridge, we have said all along that the decision over whether John stays on as England captain should be made by Fabio Capello...and Fabio alone.
Given the enormity of the publicity these stories have generated, not just in this country but worldwide, the England manager was placed in a position where he had to make a big decision. He has done that.

Terry does what he does best on the pitch >
For him NOT to have relieved John of his captain’s duties would no doubt have led to another public and media furore and, having said that the ultimate decision was down to Fabio, we therefore respect and support the actions he has taken.
The likes of Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney have all been mentioned as possible replacements to Terry as captain so there is certainly no shortage of potential new leaders in the England squad.
John Terry will remain an important member of that squad, whether he’s captain or not, because he is a world class performer who is vital to England’s chances of success in South Africa this summer.
This is a story which will no doubt run and run but, ultimately, we can only hope that the ultimate scenario will be that the careers of both John and Wayne are not adversely affected.
The PFA is here to lend support if needed, and we have already said that we would be prepared to act as mediators if both parties felt that was a sensible way forward.
It is a shame, but no real surprise, that the stories caused such a massive over-reaction, but given the fact we were talking about the England captain it was somewhat inevitable. We wish both players well during what is a difficult period for all concerned.
A statement on the FA's website quoted Fabio Capello as saying: "After much thought, I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry.
"As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour.
"However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad. What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice. John Terry was notified first.
"When I chose John Terry as captain, I also selected a vice-captain and also named a third choice. There is no reason to change this decision.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the FA, particularly Lord David Triesman and Ian Watmore, for allowing me to make this decision in my own time and in the best interest of the team."
