Arjen Robben is one of the most electrifying left wingers in the world possessing excellent ball technique, game-breaking speed, powerful shooting and precise dribbling skills. Born in the town of Bedum in the province of Groningen, the Netherlands, Robben began playing with local clubs C.V.V.B and V.V. Bedum. With his precision ball control and fast, technical footwork, he was quickly signed by local club FC Groningen and was named player of the year for his first season. Just before the 2002/2003 season began, Robben was transferred to PSV Eindhoven for €4.2 million. Only 18 when the season started, Robben played in 33 matches and scored 12 goals and was named PSV's co-player of the year along with striker Mateja Kezman. His already formidable passing and dribbling helped lead PSV to their 17th Dutch title, and gained Robben the Talent of the Year award.
In January 4, 2004 Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich offered € 18 million for him and he moved to Stamford Bridge. Despite various injuries, Robben ended the 2004-05 season with 7 goals, his second highest professional total and was short-listed for the PFA Young Player of the Year. In 2005-06 he helped Chelsea won a second consecutive FA Premier League championship. Robben has played in 22 games for the Netherlands, scoring 8 goals. In 2005, Arjen Robben was named Under 21 European Footballer of the Year.
